The world of baby clothes has become a huge segment of the overall clothing industry. It is estimated that Americans spend tens of millions of dollars every year on clothing for children under the age of two. Boutique-quality infant clothing is becoming increasingly popular, especially with first-time parents and those with smaller families. However, mass-produced children’s clothing commonly found in most “box stores” are still the staple of the industry.

For the discerning parent, the baby clothes boutique is the only place to purchase clothing for their little ones. These retailers specialize in high-quality, designer baby fashions, and they have become more and more popular over the past decade or so. Many communities throughout the country have at least one baby boutique, whether as a stand-alone store or within the local shopping mall. There are also numerous online retailers that offer these designer styles. Online sources are often preferred because there are typically more options available over the internet than there are at a local retailer. Online boutiques are also generally less expensive due to their lower overhead costs.

Anyone that has had multiple children understands that, as much as they would like to purchase the more expensive boutique clothing, the fact is that inexpensive baby clothes are much more practical. Despite being largely immobile, infants can do a lot of damage to their clothing in a relatively short period of time. Between spit-ups, diaper leaks, and just their messy nature, a child’s outfit can be stained and/or destroyed fairly quickly. This is why most parents still opt for the clothing they can find cheaply.

For parents that are on a limited budget, thrift stores and hand-me-downs are the best way to find inexpensive baby clothes. Many thrift stores have extensive baby clothes, as many people choose to donate these clothes once their own children have outgrown them. While most infant clothing from these stores is relatively worn, they can be a great place to find a few real gems. Hand-me-downs from relatives are still the most common way to find slightly used baby clothes.

The “onesie” is the staple of baby clothes. These articles of clothing are designed to make changing diapers as simple as possible, with just a couple of snaps between you and the diaper. Onesie’s have become much more than just a simple piece of clothing. They are often considered to be the t-shirt of baby clothing, and are often found printed with pictures, slogans or even just a smart remark. Many onesie’s are designed like concert t-shirts, with prominent logos from the parent’s favorite musicians and albums. Some retailers specialize in nothing but uniquely designed onesie’s. However, most of these businesses are internet based, and do not have actual brick and mortar storefronts.

Many parents dress their children almost like an extension of themselves. For this reason, there are baby clothes to suit just about every taste. Whichever way you choose to dress your baby, the important thing is that they are warm and loved.
